About Dr. Noah Laufer

Noah Laufer, MD

Dr. Noah Laufer grew up in Anchorage — he attended school just across the street from Medical Park at Wendler — and spent his childhood w

atching his father practice medicine here. That front-row view shaped everything. “In medical school, the temptation is to go do something very specialized,” he says, “but I always thought of primary care as real doctoring.” He earned his MD from Hahnemann University in 1997, completed his family medicine residency at the University of Washington Valley program in 2000, and came home to do exactly what he had watched his dad do.

The through-line at Medical Park, Dr. Laufer believes, is something that cannot be manufactured: continuity. “The real power of family medicine is in knowing people over a long period of time,” he says. Terms like “holistic” or “integrative” come and go — good doctors have simply always practiced that way. Over more than 52 years, Medical Park has been what he calls “a genuine patient-centered medical home.” No marketing needed. “We’re not trying to sell something. We’re trying to take good care of people.”

"We've stayed true to the mission of taking care of Anchorage and the people who live here. We're the real deal."

Dr. Laufer’s clinical focus is whole-person care — meeting patients where they are and helping them stay capable of the life they want to live. In Alaska, that often means staying healthy enough to be out on the trail, the river, or the mountain. “I don’t want to overestimate the importance of our role,” he says. “People live their lives and make their own decisions. But it helps to be alongside them — to pick up on things before they become disastrous, and to help them achieve the goals they actually want.” Along with comprehensive primary care, he performs skin biopsies, laceration repairs, and joint injections in-office.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Laufer lives the same outdoor life his patients are trying to protect. He hikes, camps, mountain bikes, skis, and fly fishes — usually with his family close by. He’s candid about the challenge he preaches to others: “My current struggle is figuring out how to age gracefully. It’s not easy. But I exercise regularly, try to eat well, and spend as much time as I can outside.” He is also actively involved in healthcare advocacy efforts on behalf of all Alaskans.

Medical Park has been part of Anchorage for over 52 years. Dr. Laufer has been part of Medical Park for most of his life. He’s committed to passing that tradition to the next generation of providers who can carry it forward — and to being here for his patients in the meantime.
